Refugees equipped to apply for the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme
On a beautiful Wednesday morning of May, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and Finn Church Aid (FCA) of Uganda visited the DAAD Nairobi Office to discuss the LfA Scholarship Programme and find better ways to increase access to DAAD scholarships going forward. Apart from discussing the LfA Programme, the team also discussed the strategies for promoting inclusivity and diversity within scholarship programmes.
At the same time, a programme officer at DAAD Nairobi visited Juba, South Sudan and introduced DAAD-sponsored scholarships, especially the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme among the refugees and nationals at the University of Juba, at the UNHCR Office and m-Gurush office.
DAAD appreciates the cooperation of the Commission for Refugee Affairs in Juba, which officially requested DAAD to hold the info-sessions and helped coordinate both the actual meeting with the refugees and the virtual meeting from a refugee camp. Special thanks to the m-Gurush team for their wonderful facilitation of DAAD.
In April 2024, DAAD visited Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and provided an info session on the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme. The UNHCR and Windle International disseminated information to refugees in camps who took part digitally.
Earlier this year, in March, the DAAD visited Kigali Independent University and, following a meeting with the university’s leadership, hosted an information session for refugees and nationals about the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme.
Here is more information about the scholarship. The deadline for application was 7 June 2024, for studies beginning in the winter of 2025.
